Blade Runner 2049 is a beautiful, visually stunning film that captures philosophical themes and everything that made 1982’s Blade Runner so special.
Dennis Villeneuve continues to show he is one of the best directors in the industry today with Blade Runner 2049. His sense of direction and visual style continues to be elite. Each and every shot in this film feels real and unique. Villeneuve has always been great at conveying his message through the shot alone and Blade Runner 2049 is no different. The film looks absolutely magnificent from the opening sequence to the final credits.
The original Blade Runner is one of the greatest sci-fi films of all time. Obviously, 2049 had huge shoes to fill. Fortunately, it captured a lot of the same magic the original did. The world feels the same as the original, the neon lighting densely crowded future LA feels alive at all times. The film does not hesitate to let audiences know that this is very much the same world Harrison Ford’s Decker once roamed.
Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford and Jared Leto delivered great performances as their respective characters and provided much to the film’s greatness. Ryan Gosling continues his strong streak of films here. His acting is superb and gives off the same vibes Ford once did. The key to these films is keeping audiences under the same mystery as the protagonists themselves. This brings and elevated level of suspense and tension as the film’s slow pace is perfectly used to build upon.
Blade Runner 2049 has an argument to be the best film of 2017. It provided a beautiful, resonant, and powerful experience for fans of the original and newcomers alike.
